Weapon requests

::: Flipper

::: A short splike, for use in melee situatioons, which comes out of the base on one or other side of the tank, depending on which way the tank is aiming, and voilently flicks upwards. If the tank is upside down, it will hit the ground and flip the tank into the air. If the tank is the right way up and the flipper connects with another tank, the other tank will be flipped into the air.

::: Peregrine-Mole mine

::: It dives straight down from on high... and digs a hole. Fired like a normal projectile, at the peak of its trajectory it then launches straight down blasting a narrow but comparatively deep trench.

::: Flame thrower

::: Squirts a stream of incandescent 'fire balls' which stick to things, including the ground, and do damage over time. Then they float upwards and fade. Medium-close range.

::: Smoke bomb

::: Covers a certain area with dense smoke, hiding tanks from view. Ninja-like. While in the cloud, a player can see the outline of their own tank and aiming arrow but not those of any other tanks in the cloud.

::: Death Worm

::: Underground missile. Nuff said.

::: Volcano cannon

::: You fire a core destabalising subatomic particle gun through the ground at the base of the screen. A procedurally generated column of magma snakes its way up to the surface and splurges forth.

::: Thor device

::: An airburst projectile, like a MIRV except a cloud comes out, which spirals down and becomes a tornado which chucks tanks about a bit. Useful for disrupting entrenched foe.

    Tracer - a low-damage or zero-damage, cheap, high rate of fire and relatively high ammo weapon to allow you to obtain an accurate firing solution fairly rapidly. Like a machinegun, but cheaper / more ammo, and brightly glowing :)

    I might write up a quick guide on how to create new weapons. Should be nice and easy for people to add simple new weapons (such as the tracer), or weapons based on existing ones. Weapons with more complex behaviour (such as most of Mark's suggestions) would require a bit more work and knowledge of how to use the physics engine.

    Missile-shield weapon - some sort of broad sweeping arc, relatively rapid fire, that does no damage to tanks but does deflect or explode incoming projectiles.

    Flamethrower - like a machinegun, but projectiles expand in size and disappear after a certain distance. Like machinegun but less aiming :) Also perhaps some sticky damage over time after a hit.

    Shotgun - like a mirv blast, but straight from the tank, and a lot weedier - maybe using machinegun bullets.

    Weapon to shove tanks around - some sort of very heavy and fairly rapid fire but very low damage projectile, just to generally bother and inconvenience other players, shove them off cliffs, etc.

    The first one is great aside from the fact that you can't aim below the horizontal. A bit of a problem.

    The second... would anyone actually pay for a weapon that doesn't do direct damage though?

    I have boundless faith in John and Aanand's ability to mount the insurmountable and, if they think I'm completely nuts, to at least point me in the right dirrection.

    I quite like the idea of a weapon that dislodges the enemy and breaks their aim without doing dirrect damage (although they might take some if the tornado picks them up and drops them upside down). It would also disrupt projectiles that pass through it, potentially acting as a kind of shield. It presents a interesting tactical alternative... of course its actual practical usefulness would be reflected in its price.

    I could just make the animation really pretty and flog it on the basis that it's weather.
