Player chat should be coloured appropriately
Reported by Tom Feist | November 22nd, 2008 @ 05:37 PM | in Real Artists Ship
Text in the player chat-box should be coloured the same as the player in the readyroom/game.
Also text should be wrapped to stay within the box rather than extending outside it on long lines.

The box i think was a short-term solution to a contrast/visibility problem, that i understand will be addressed with fonts? IMO it's really unnecessary in the first place, having the text overlaid on the foreground looked fine before...
Player colours i agree with totally, also i think it would be a bonus to be able to choose your colour in the lobby.

Player names in the chat should certainly be the player's colour.
I'm not so sure about the text itself. This is partly for aesthetic reasons (rainbow chat will not look good) and partly because it won't necessarily be easier to read against the ground texture. If the text is all one colour then it'll be a lot easier to ensure it contrasts in an appropriate manner with the textures.
I think the chat text should be white like all the other text.

Could do white text, with the username only slightly tinted the colour of the player.
Yes, the box is a short term solution probably. It's pretty broken right now too, with lines of chat easily going over it. Has anyone actually dug down to the chat box in a real game yet? Maybe that's more likely to happen in a multiplayer game.

"Could do white text, with the username only slightly tinted the colour of the player."
Sounds good to me.
I haven't dug down to the box in a real game but, even if the box were removed, I don't think it'd be that much of a problem. The skies are paler but white text would still be just about readable.
Is the worry about the confusion caused by a tank larking around behind lines of text? Solution: Make each word a physics object! Hit a line of text and it gets blasted about. Tehe.

sorry, I did originally mean that username should be coloured. Multicoloured text woujld get very distracting.

Do it!
