Targeting Computer

Reported by Norgg | September 10th, 2008 @ 06:20 PM

Display a translucent circle of the tank colour of the owner, the same radius as the projectile they will be firing. The calculation for this could be tricky, especially done on the client side, where we're not actually running the physics any more so we can't use that to calculate it.

We could go with a thing where it takes some time for the targeting computer to catch up with where you're aiming when you change, in which time we could fire an invisible, non-colliding projectile and see where it lands.

Projectile movement is just parabolic, so we could probably get away with faking it. I don't think it matters if it's slightly off anyway - it could be considered a feature.

True. The geometry to figure out where projectiles of various sizes will hit the ground would be a bit complex. Although I guess just F(x) - radius > y (with y being 0 at the top of the screen still...) is a good enough approximation.
